STUDIO WORKSHOPS AT OUR CLUB

DUO MODEL WORKSHOPS

The challenge here is to light both models either evenly or creatively depending on the mood board. Working with 2 models brings more challenges to the table. Depending on the expected outcomes of a shoot, they have to be styled, complement each other, and timekeeping is important. Like other workshops, members are in a watsapp group where they share ideas and plans in advance of a shoot so that time is maximised for shooting.

Other challenges faced in a duo shoot can be working with models of different height, hair colour, hair styles, skin colour, body shapes and of course personalities. It is imperative that both models are comfortable working with each other and the  photographers in the group. The dynamic has to work to ensure the success of the workshop.

SINGLE MODEL WORKSHOPS

Workshops usually begin with a watsapp announcement of a suggestion to hire a particular model. Members are polled their interest and the magic happens from there. Models come from all walks of life being local to Drogheda, Dublin, Ireland  and also international travelling models. Members of all levels are invited to join a workshop. Those new to the experience are supported in their learning and those with expertise are given the space to get creative.

It’s incredible to see how different the results are from each workshop group. A morning can produce images completely different from an afternoon group. The club really supports the members being the leaders in their workshop. They learn to take control of lighting, styling and most importantly engaging with the model and trying to bring their idea to life. Collaboration with models is key to helping the creative process.

HIGH KEY WORKSHOPS

High key photography was another collaborative effort by members and was a new challenge for some. Photographing this style and maintaining the details in the shot can be a challenge.

Images can be both in colour or black and white. Some challenges arise with this style when printing one’s work, but that is always resolved in our club photoshop lessons.

ORANGE THEME WORKSHOPS

Orange theme, members were challenged to work with the colour orange and collaborate. Mood boards and ideas were shared by wattsapp group in advance. Interpretation was open to all ideas and on the day, and the workshop started with an Orange seamless paper. The model chosen to work with the group had dark skin as it is complemented by the orange. Moving on, the backdrop was changed to a dark colour but the theme still persisted with orange props.

It’s incredible when a group work together over the course of a few hours, to see the project come together. Something like this is mindful and you don’t notice the time disappearing. It is one example of how the club works and succeeds on its team efforts. It’s not important the standard of each member, they all share ideas and encourage each others.

RED THEME WORKSHOPS

So with valentine on the horizon, club members got together and collaborated on a red theme. Working with a local model, props, curtains and styling were agreed and the fun began.

Themed workshops like this are great fun and the bonus being that members get images to use in the club competitions. Of course that will lead to lessons in photo editing aswell.
